The ます-stem is the key: 話す→話し, 歩く→歩き, する→し, 来る→来 (き). ながら sentences are common in warnings: ながら運転 (driving while using a phone) is a set word. At N3 and above, ながら also means "although" (残念ながら = unfortunately), but at N4 it is only "while".
JLPT N4 tips
On the exam
- In 文法形式 the options often show the same verb in different forms (聞き / 聞く / 聞いて / 聞いた) before ながら. Only the ます-stem is correct.
- If the two clauses have different subjects, ながら is wrong; look for 間に or とき instead.
