JLPT N3 tips
On the exam
- Formal context (announcement, report, business) + a completed cause = ために. Casual contexts point to せいで / おかげで instead.
- Purpose vs cause: check the verb form before ために. Past or state = cause; dictionary-form intentional action = purpose.
- Distractors せいで / おかげで carry emotion. If the sentence is a neutral announcement, choose ために.
