Meaning
do things like… and… / sometimes…, sometimes… (representative or alternating actions)
〜たり〜たりする lists a few actions as examples, without claiming they are the only ones: 本を読んだり、音楽を聞いたりします "I do things like reading and listening to music". With opposite pairs it means alternation: 行ったり来たり "back and forth". The tense goes on the final する.
Everyday speech and writing at all levels. A single 〜たりする softens a statement (走ったりしないでください "please don't run or anything"). Adjectives and nouns can be listed too: 暑かったり寒かったり.
