- I really wonder whether…
- はたして〜のか
- whether … at all
- はたしてその通りだった
- and sure enough, so it was
Memory tip
The ending decides the meaning. With a question form (だろうか, のか) it is doubt: "I really wonder whether". With a plain past statement it is confirmation: "sure enough, just as expected". Read to the end of the sentence before you translate it.
