Meaning

〜わけだ marks a conclusion that follows naturally from what has been said or learned: 十年日本にいたのか。道理で日本語が上手なわけだ (no wonder his Japanese is good). It can also restate something in other words (つまり〜というわけだ) or show that a result is logically expected (三割引だから七千円になるわけだ).
Both speech and writing. Very common in conversation when something suddenly makes sense (そういうわけか). Often paired with 道理で, つまり, だから, それで. The polite form is わけです.
