〜に即して / 〜に即した

in accordance with …; in line with (facts, rules, reality)

〜に即して means "following X closely, without straying from it". X is something that already exists and should be respected: the facts, the actual situation, a rule, a law, past experience. 即する means "to fit exactly", so the nuance is "stick to reality / stick to the rules". Before a noun it becomes に即した.

Formal written Japanese: reports, proposals, laws, education policy. Typical when someone argues that a plan or a decision should match reality rather than theory (現状に即して), or that handling should follow rules (規則に即して). Not used in casual conversation.

  Something is built on a basis (data, a theory). に即して stresses fitting reality or a rule closely. Compare side by side

  Go along a line or policy (方針・希望に沿って). Softer; it does not carry the "fit exactly" nuance. Compare side by side

  Drawing a conclusion from evidence is に基づいて. に即して is about actions or plans matching reality.

The noun before に即して is almost always one of: 事実・現実・現状・実態・規則・法律・慣習・経験・時代・目的. It often carries a critical undertone: "the current approach is out of touch, so make it fit reality". The kanji 即 ("immediately, right there") helps: the action sticks right to X.
